The brief
A destination Airbnb in Bir, Himachal Pradesh — one of India's premier paragliding towns. The brief called for a hospitality-grade stay that would read as considered and contextual, not as a generic guest house transplanted to the mountains.
The challenge
- Remote-location construction. Every material, labour crew, and logistics decision had to account for the drive up from the plains.
- Hospitality-grade finishes and durability. Rental turnover puts finishes under harder use than a private home — every choice had to survive that.
- Contextual design. The building had to sit in its setting — mountain light, view corridors, local material vocabulary — not fight it.
Our approach
- Architecture + landscape as one composition. The building, courtyards, and approach were designed together — the outdoor experience is half the stay.
- Contextual materials. Local stone, timber, and finishes chosen for the setting and the maintenance cycle.
- Guest-experience-driven layout. Room configurations, common areas, and circulation planned around what a paying guest will actually notice.
- Phased delivery. Structure, envelope, finishes, and F&B areas staged so the build could progress despite mountain-site constraints.
